Widtmann House II
Accessible to the public only during operating hours of the businesses residing here.
The house is named after the merchant family of the Widtmanns who founded the J. A. Widtmann textile wholesale store on its premises. The originally separate properties No. 487 and 488 had a single owner from 1810 and they were acquired by Magdalena Widtmann in 1891. The merger of the two houses brought into being the town’s first shopping centre, which became called the first department store in the 1900s. The reconstruction of the connected properties completed in 1966 preserved the unifying, historicist facade and the original twin-house is currently registered as a single property under the land-registry No. 487.
