The house of Lorenz Forster used to stand in the place of today’s building in the early 1870s. His son Andreas, originally a gardener from Cheb, inherited this property and he tasked Georg Blomann in 1905 to develop a three-floor block of rental flats for him. Blomann drafted a house with Art Nouveau elements already appearing in its historicizing layout of the facade. The building was finished in the next year but several deviations from the original plan took place during the construction. Floral Art Nouveau which was finding its use in Cheb architecture only slowly appeared on the street facade in full force. The pilasters reduced to mere bands were ended by massive female masks in the characteristic Art Nouveau stylization, the hood mouldings were decorated with finials and flowers.[1] Three rooms for shops were situated on the ground floor by the builder, and two apartments with two rooms, kitchen, alcove, and toilet in the corridor on each floor. A habitable workshop and other production buildings were located in the yard. The house was owned by the Forster family until 1949 when it was assigned to the town of Cheb. A café and wine bar “Šantán” used to be located on its ground floor in the 1960s which was later extended and refurbished in 1969.
