The house is with an inn is first mentioned under this name in 1669 when it was acquired by Johann Michael Widtmann. The new owner reconstructed the house and opened a post office there in 1698. He thus became the first postmaster in the town and also the first publisher of a printed newspaper. The house was mainly known as one of the publican houses that had served as the gathering place of the provincial assembly. The original paintings on the Early Baroque facade were restored during a subsequent reconstruction. The alleged Renaissance fragment painted on the upper floor wall is in fact a remnant of a fresco depicting a dancing bear with a piper. It was painted by local artist Franz Dietl in 1924 based on the idea of archivist K. Siegl who wished to preserve the memory of the Cheb provincial assembly.
