House at the Two Archdukes
Accessible to the public only during operating hours of the businesses residing here.
The house was originally called The Red Pony after the oldest coaching inn founded in 1531, which hosted many prominent visitors coming to Cheb. It received its present-day Baroque appearance during a reconstruction in the 19th century and it is one of the few town houses with a well-preserved oriel. The relief, according to which the house was commonly known as the House at the Two Princes, dates back to 1806. Three years earlier, two Austrian Archdukes, Johann and Ludwig, had been accommodated at the local inn and had granted the innkeeper their permission to rename his establishment in their honour. The popular inn was later renamed to the Hotel in the Square and ultimately closed down in 1926. The publican tradition was renewed in the 1960s with the opening of a new restaurant, this time under the name King George.
